what is happening with the former School land, next to our Peace Garden , more garden space ?

    dave asked 4 months ago

    Hi,

    Thank you for your question.

All of the current information on the former school land can be found here

In our first two rounds of engagement, community gardens came up as a strong theme! In our next engagement activity, which starts March 9, the community will suggest locations of all of the themes, including gardens. Please add your input here. (Scroll to the bottom of the page.)

Our engagement will be finished in Spring 2020 and the recreation strategic plan will be complete by Fall 2020. This will help identify opportunities and guide recreation decisions in the future.

    Regards,

    Karey

Is there any possibility to keep the pool? It’s one of the highlights of living in Oliver!

    Lisa asked 4 months ago

    Hi,

    Thank you for your question.

Oliver Pool is at the end of its lifecycle. At this point, there is no planned ‘close’ date. If future issues with the Oliver pool arise, a further assessment will be required.

The Approach to Recreation Facility Planning recommends that there are basic recreation commitments that the City aims for. As a general approach, “every resident will have a place to connect, be active and participate in recreation indoors (e.g. on ice, in water, or gymnasiums and fitness centres) within 5 kilometres of their residence.”

There are 3 aquatic locations within 5km of Oliver.

    Regards,

    Karey

Is this assessment for the entire neighbourhood, or only Oliver Park?

    GoingGreen asked 5 months ago

    Hi,

Thank you for your question. This assessment is for the entire neighbourhood. There is a special focus on Oliver Park because the arena and pool are nearing the end of their life cycle (there is no known end date at this point in time), and we want to create a new vision for that space.

Our goal is to look at all the places for recreation opportunities and create a network of recreation options for Oliver that includes all City parks.

    Regards,

    Karey
