March 22, 2024 Update:

Public engagement on this project has concluded. Future public engagement and communications will be related to operations and sites for 2024. Meanwhile, you can check out our 2024 planting sites.

August 15, 2023 Update:

Thank you for participating in the Phase 2 public engagement process from May 5 to May 29, 2023. Engagement for this phase has now concluded.

You can now access the What We Heard Report - Naturalization and Tree Planting (Phase 2).

The Naturalization, Restoration and Reclamation Plan (NRRP) and the Green Infrastructure Expansion Mapping model (GIEM) will guide the City’s work to reach one of the the City Plan’s Big Moves - Greener As We Grow by planting two million new trees. The feedback gathered during this public engagement phase is currently being reviewed by the City Project Team and potential revisions to the NRRP and GIEM model will be considered based on what was heard during the public engagement process. Specific site level feedback will be considered for annual planning purposes.

Feedback gathered from both phases of public engagement will help improve the City’s regular communications and education work around naturalization and tree planting.

May 30, 2023 Update:

The City conducted engagement from May 5 - May 29, 2023. The survey and map tool are now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and insights with us.

Phase 2 Public Engagement

Edmonton is growing and we are committed to being Greener as We Grow. Making Edmonton greener will protect our health, environment and quality of life. To make this happen, the City of Edmonton is expanding the urban forest - planting two million new trees as the population grows and increasing canopy coverage by 20 per cent. To accomplish these goals, the City is developing a plan for both naturalization and boulevard and open space tree planting.

Phase 1 Public Engagement included a city-wide survey to help us better understand how you use green spaces, as well the level of support for boulevard and open space tree planting. A What We Heard report summarizing the first phase of engagement is available here.

In Phase 2 Public Engagement, we want to understand how you currently use open spaces in your neighbourhood and where you see opportunities to naturalize or plant trees. Think long-term - how can we make Edmonton greener?

Thank you for sharing your experience!

Between May 5 - 29, 2023, participants provided their feedback by:

How Your Feedback Will Be Used

Your feedback will contribute to the development of the new Naturalization, Reclamation and Restoration Plan (NRRP) and mapping database to determine where to plant. Insights shared will also help improve the City’s communications and education work around naturalization and planting boulevard and open space trees.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.
