Thank you for participating in the final phase of the online engagement for Reimagine Oliver Wellness. • CLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.

Oliver Park is one of the largest and most popular parks in the neighbourhood.  Currently, the following amenities can be found in Oliver park:

    • A single pad arena in the NW corner.
    • A playground in the NE portion of the park.
    • A seasonal outdoor pool in the SW corner and a small parking (note: pool currently under maintenance and not operational)
    • Green space in the SE portion of the park, the former location of the Oliver Community League Hall and land leased to the Community League.

A high-level future vision for the Oliver Park is proposed below. Please comment on the proposed ideas and let us know if we've missed anything. These ideas will help inform the future recreational planning in the Oliver Neighbourhood.

    • A multi-level community hub/League Hall with programmable, publicly-accessible, well-designed gathering spaces. Additional ideas for the community hub can include: fitness, studio and meeting spaces; Edmonton Public Library Programming space; a green roof that could offer additional green space and could serve as a community garden; a patio/deck with an all-season gas firepit and bathroom access to encourage year-around passive recreation; a partnership-based cafe/vending to benefit community gathering. The building would replace the Oliver Arena as the designated shelter for the nearby Oliver School.

    • The Oliver park playground could benefit from updated design and natural elements.

    • A landscaped seating area could facilitate community gathering and intergenerational, multipurpose, year-around use.

    • In case of pool closure, an outdoor skating rink could replace the Oliver Outdoor Pool. Alternatively, to increase ecology in the area, the space could be converted to naturalized open space.

    • Additional landscaping elements such as trees and shrubs could enhance ecology.

    • A heated gazebo could encourage multi-year use.

    • The SE corner could remain as green space to accommodate pop-up events and community celebration use. Can also be programmable for outdoor fitness activities.

    • Maintained and lit paved walkways with disability access throughout the park would ensure equitable access

    * Please note: on December 8th, 2020, the map above has replaced a freehand illustration of the proposed ideas below. Upon further consultation with stakeholders, the illustration was removed so it wouldn't influence or bias idea generation and prioritization. Concept development is outside of the scope of this project, but should a concept be proposed and funded, extensive community engagement will take place. If you have provided comments on the old version of this tool, your comments will be analyzed with that context, and will be included in the final report.
