What is the Wolf Willow Resident-only Parking Program Trial?

The west central Edmonton community of Wolf Willow overlooks Canada’s largest urban park, the River Valley. The Wolf Willow stairs and area provide a high demand access point to the legendary green space.

Due to the popularity of the stairs and trails, community members raised concerns about parking in the area. A one-year parking pilot launched on November 1, 2021 prohibiting parking on the street unless a vehicle has a valid permit.

Which streets have restricted parking during the trial?

Wolf Willow Crescent and Wolf Willow Point have parking restricted to vehicles displaying a Residential Parking Permit for a one-year trial period starting November 1, 2021.

Are there still available parking spaces for visitors wishing to access Patricia Ravine and the River Valley?

General public parking for visitors to Patricia Ravine is available outside of the designated area along the west side of Wolf Willow Road, north of Wolf Willow Crescent. Non-residential parking is unavailable in the designated area except in the accessible zone. Parking restrictions are enforced.

How is the project maintaining park access to people of all ages and abilities?

An accessible parking zone is available on the street near the Wolf Willow staircase and can be used by a vehicle with a provincially-registered Parking Placard for People with Disabilities. The area also has accessible curb ramps and entrances on the sidewalks and paths to Patricia Ravine. See visual map of parking plan below:

    How is parking enforced?

Vehicles that are registered with a residency must display a permit in their vehicle. Vehicles without a residential parking permit or temporary visitor parking permit will be issued a parking violation.

From November 1 to December 1, 2021, vehicles not displaying a permit received a warning notice. After December 1, 2021 violation tickets were issued.

What happens after the trial period is over?

After the trial period is over, results from the evaluation will be shared with residents. The City of Edmonton will balance the needs of residents while providing Edmontonians access to the river valley within the Wolf Willow neighbourhood. Input from the area and community league is critical for informing the final decision made by the City.
