Share Your Ideas
over 3 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.Question: When you consider how you live, walk, bike, roll or move by other active modes within your community - including Southwest Edmonton and the city as a whole - what is important to you?
Things you may want to consider: connectivity, directness of the route, access to amenities, accessibility, safety, wellness, community character, the environment, and visual appeal.
How to provide ideas: Share your ideas and read what others have suggested. Show your support by ‘liking’ the ideas that inspire you the most.
We are encouraging an open and fair discussion of the diverse ideas that participants may have around the project, allowing everyone to express their views and perspectives. We ask that you please be respectful when commenting on other participants’ ideas, as their experiences may be different than yours.

I commute to downtown from the Leger area. Completing this bridge would really improve my commute. Currently, I have to use the path under the power line to get across Whitemud Creek and downtown. This path is a significant detour and has steep grades that are difficult to bike up.

Bridges for pedestrians and cyclists that include stairs at either end are not accessible.
0 comment5lw75over 3 years agoI don’t think we need this bridge. The city should use this money on more needed items!

As a Brookside resident this is just what we need. With only one road in it makes it difficult to cycle anywhere south without doing a large detour. Better connections would make me much more likely to cycle.
0 comment4mbatemanover 3 years agoTruly accessible for all ages and abilities. Like try it before you build it--can a person in a wheelchair independently use the bridge?
Make room for pedestrians and bikes and strollers and wheelchairs to pass and ensure it is accessible from both sides (no stairs) Ensure proper lighting, and consider budget for snow removal since we are winter city and we get outside and use our bridges!

Our Project
A new pedestrian/cyclist bridge over Whitemud Drive between the Whitemud Drive/Terwillegar Drive interchange and Whitemud Creek is being planned.
The bridge will improve active mode connections, providing better access City-wide, within Southwest Edmonton and to the river valley and ravine trail network. It will also enhance transportation and recreational opportunities for pedestrians, cyclists and other active mode users.
In addition to a bridge, the project includes upgrades to the open spaces and active mode connections.
