Help Create Edmonton's ICI Waste Roadmap
Phase 2 of engagement is underway for representatives involved in food and organics and construction and demolition industry areas.

Non-residential sectors (also known as Industrial, Commercial and Institutional, or ICI) generate up to 70% of Edmonton’s waste each year. While some voluntary waste diversion does occur, the majority of this waste still goes to landfill. The City of Edmonton is developing a four year ICI Waste Roadmap that seeks to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill through reduction and diversion actions that are guided by the Zero Waste Framework.
How businesses manage waste in this sector may be changing and we want to hear from you. If your business or organization makes, collects or processes food or construction waste, we invite you to provide your feedback from November 10 2025 to February 6, 2026. This input will help refine the waste reduction and diversion actions that will be proposed in the ICI Waste Roadmap.

Property Managers and Waste Generating Businesses
- Thursday, December 4, 2025 9-11AM
- Monday, December 8, 2025 1-3PM
This workshop gathered feedback on the shortlist of actions proposed for the ICI Roadmap that are specific to the food and organics focus area. The target audience for this workshop was representatives from the food and organics area, including waste generators (i.e. businesses that generate food scraps and organic waste on their premises) and property manager/owners that oversee waste services for their tenants.
Virtual Workshop - Food and Organics:
Haulers and Processors
- Tuesday, December 9, 2025 9-11AM
This workshop gathered feedback on the shortlist of proposed actions for the ICI Roadmap that are specific to the haulers and processors working in the food and organics area (including food rescue organizations). The target audience for this workshop was businesses or organizations that collect food and organic waste from the ICI sector, and businesses or organizations that provide food and organic waste processing services.
Virtual Workshop - Construction and Demolition
- Wednesday, December 10, 2025 9-11AM
This workshop gathered feedback on the shortlist of proposed actions for the ICI Roadmap that are specific to the construction and demolition focus area. The target audience for this workshop was representatives from the construction and demolition area, including developers, builders, demolition or deconstruction companies, construction waste haulers and processors (recyclers, salvage, reuse).

Sets out waste diversion and reduction goals and priority areas for 25-year strategy, which was approved by City Council in 2019.
